Bert Roofing Receives NTRCA Golden Hammer Award for Historic Roofing Project
Bert Roofing is pleased to announce that one of our 2025 projects has been recognized with the NTRCA Golden Hammer Award, presented by the North Texas Roofing Contractors Association. The award recognizes outstanding roofing projects completed by contractor members across North Texas.

NTRCA Golden Hammer Award winning cedar roof restoration on a Charles Dilbeck designed home in Preston Hollow
Each year the NTRCA presents Golden Hammer Awards to contractors whose work demonstrates exceptional craftsmanship and project execution. Projects are judged by experienced industry professionals and evaluated based on factors such as difficulty, workmanship, safety, and the challenges involved in completing the work.
Recognition by peers in the roofing industry carries particular meaning. Roofing is a trade where the details matter, and the people judging these projects understand what it takes to complete them properly.
The Award Winning Project
The project recognized with the Golden Hammer Award involved the restoration and installation of a historically appropriate roof on a home designed by Charles Dilbeck, one of Dallas’ most recognized residential architects. The work was completed under the direction of Ron Seibler, former president of Preservation Dallas and a long time historical restoration consultant. Because the home is associated with Dilbeck’s architectural work, the roofing project required careful attention to historical accuracy while still meeting modern performance expectations.
The roof system used custom sized Western Red Cedar wood shingles. The shingles were custom milled in Canada, then fire treated in California before being shipped to Dallas for installation. To meet both preservation requirements and long term durability expectations, the project also incorporated custom fabricated copper flashing and stainless steel nails, materials that perform well with cedar roofing systems and help prevent corrosion over time.
Projects like this require careful coordination between the consultant, suppliers, and installers. Historic homes often involve additional constraints, but when completed correctly the finished roof preserves the architectural character of the structure while providing the protection expected from a modern roofing system.
About the Golden Hammer Awards
The Golden Hammer Awards are presented annually by the North Texas Roofing Contractors Association, a regional trade organization representing roofing contractors, manufacturers, and suppliers throughout North Texas.
Contractors submit completed projects for consideration, and entries are reviewed by experienced judges within the industry. Projects are evaluated on craftsmanship, difficulty, safety, and the quality of the finished work. In other words, the judging is done by people who understand roofing and the challenges that come with complicated projects.
A Long History in the North Texas Roofing Industry
Bert Roofing was founded in 1988 by John B Bert, Dee Bert, and John Edward Bert II, and has served homeowners throughout Dallas and the surrounding area for more than three decades.
Over the years the company has completed thousands of roofing projects across North Texas, ranging from straightforward residential replacements to complex custom installations. Recognition such as the Golden Hammer Award reflects the effort of many people, from the installers in the field to the suppliers and partners who help make each project possible.
A Note About Awards
Homeowners often see many different “best of” awards advertised in various industries. Some of those programs are essentially marketing promotions where companies pay to participate or to be listed.
Industry awards tend to be different. Programs like the Golden Hammer Awards focus on the technical aspects of a project and are judged by people who work in the trade. For contractors, recognition from peers in the industry generally carries more weight.
Continuing the Work
Awards are appreciated, but they are not the goal. The goal remains the same as it has always been: install roofs correctly, use good materials, and treat customers fairly. This project represents roughly the twelfth Golden Hammer Award received by Bert Roofing over the years, placing the company among the more frequently recognized residential roofing contractors in the association.
We appreciate the recognition from the North Texas Roofing Contractors Association and the work of everyone involved in completing the project.
