Owens Corning Duration Storm Roof Replacement in Mesquite, TX 75149
We recently completed a full roof replacement in Mesquite, TX 75149, near Stonewall Court. This was not an insurance claim. The homeowners simply decided it was time to replace the roof and wanted it handled correctly.

For this project, the homeowner selected Owens Corning Duration Storm, a UL 2218 Class 4 impact-resistant architectural shingle.
There is an important technical distinction here.
Most Class 4 shingles on the market rely on SBS-modified asphalt to achieve impact resistance. SBS adds rubber-like flexibility, which performs well in lab impact testing. However, North Texas is not a laboratory. We deal with prolonged high heat, UV exposure, and significant thermal cycling.
Duration Storm is one of the few Class 4 products that is not built on an SBS-modified asphalt platform. It achieves impact resistance while maintaining performance characteristics that hold up well under sustained Texas heat. Combined with Owens Corning’s reinforced nailing zone and wind performance design, it is a strong fit for our climate.
Impact resistance matters. Heat resistance matters just as much.
Installation Matters More Than the Label
A good shingle installed poorly will fail. A solid product installed correctly will perform for years.
On this project, we focused on the fundamentals:
- Proper deck preparation
- Correct underlayment installation
- Straight shingle courses

- Proper flashing integration at all transitions
