Researchers Study Hail Damage
Good story on hail damage research recently in the North Carolina Observer.
A scientist created a hail cannon that when fired in can reproduce a hail storm. Different roofing materials are put in the path of variously sized hailstones and the results are recorded. Interesting to note that larger hailstones not only have more mass but create more damage as they have a higher velocity (speed when falling).
To no surprise, metal did better than composition as did “impact resistant” shingles did better than those without it.
