Single-ply training at RSG
Earlier this summer we received an invitation from Chuck Arista, our long-time Elk factory representative now with Roofing Supply Group (RSG) of Dallas, to attend demonstration and training for Carlisle’s TPO and Single-Ply at their Dallas warehouse. The brutal summer heat stayed away and a very useful session was had on one of the fastest growing segments of the roofing industry.
What is TPO?
Specifically, TPO is short for Thermoplastic Polyolefin. It is a single-ply roofing membrane with welded seams and high reflectivity which helps it to be in the “Cool Roof” class of materials. This lightweight membrane can give a property owner a reduction in cooling cost in most cases. TPO, along with other single-ply materials such as PVC, made up 70% of the low sloped roofing installations in Texas last year.
Our Carlisle rep (left) demonstrated both proper and improper welds. For detailed work such as curbs, corners, and pipes, Carlisle makes many preformed accessories that save installation time and reduce welding errors.
