Roof Replacement Completed on Crest Ridge in East Dallas (75228)
We recently completed a residential roof replacement on Crest Ridge in the Casa Linda neighborhood of East Dallas, zip code 75228. This home is representative of many properties in the area—solidly built, but old enough that roofing work often involves more than just removing shingles and installing new ones.
In this case, the project required a significant amount of deck repair prior to re-roofing. That is not unusual for homes built around 1960. Over time, small leaks, nail fatigue, and past repairs can compromise roof decking in ways that aren’t visible until the old roof is removed.
Project Overview
The new roof was installed using Owens Corning Supreme shingles in Desert Tan. Bert Roofing is an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor, and this product remains a practical, time-tested option for homes in this part of Dallas.
Before installation, we removed the existing roofing materials and performed a full deck inspection. Multiple areas required repair before the new roof could be properly fastened. Addressing decking issues at this stage is critical. A new roof installed over compromised decking may look fine initially, but it cannot perform as intended over the long term.
Once the decking repairs were completed, the new roofing system was installed according to manufacturer requirements and standard best practices for the region.
A Long-Term Relationship with This Home
This project was also meaningful on a personal level. This is the third time Bert Roofing has replaced the roof on this property.
-
First roof replacement: 1989
-
Second roof replacement: 2000
-
Most recent replacement: 2026
That kind of continuity is rare and reflects the long time horizons involved in residential roofing when work is done correctly.
There is also a local connection. The homeowner’s children attended St. Bernard’s Catholic School with our current office manager, Nicole McElwee. In neighborhoods like Casa Linda, those relationships matter, and they tend to last.

Why Deck Repairs Matter on Older Homes
Homeowners often ask why decking issues are so common on older properties. The answer is simple: roofs last decades, but materials underneath them age as well. Even when shingles are replaced on schedule, decking can still deteriorate due to past leaks or construction standards from earlier eras.
Catching and correcting those issues during replacement helps ensure the new roof performs as designed—rather than masking problems that will surface later.
