Rowlett Storm Restoration After the April 27, 2026 Storm

The April 2026 storm affected a wide part of the Dallas area. Most of Bert Roofing’s work is in East Dallas, Lakewood, Casa Linda, and the surrounding neighborhoods, but we also regularly work east into Mesquite, Rowlett, Rockwall, and Sunnyvale.

This Rowlett project is a good example. We had previously replaced the roof for the homeowner’s son in Sunnyvale, and when this property needed storm restoration, they called us for the next project.

A Full Owens Corning Roof Replacement in Rowlett

For the roof, we installed Owens Corning Duration shingles in Driftwood. Bert Roofing is an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor, and we install complete roof systems, not just shingles. That means the roof replacement includes the proper underlayment, starter shingles, ridge, ventilation, flashing, drip edge, pipe jacks, and cleanup.

The roof is usually the largest part of a storm restoration project, but it is not always the only part. Hail and wind can damage gutters, skylights, chimney caps, fences, detached buildings, and other exterior components. A good restoration plan looks at the whole property, not just the roof surface.

More Than Roofing: Full Exterior Storm Restoration

While roofing is our specialty, Bert Roofing also helps homeowners coordinate full exterior storm restoration. This Rowlett property included several additional items beyond the main roof.

The project included a custom skylight, a decorative chimney cap, a full gutter replacement, work on the detached shed roof, and fence restoration. That is common after a significant storm. The roof may be the obvious item, but the surrounding exterior components often need attention too.

For homeowners, this is usually simpler than trying to coordinate several unrelated contractors. One contractor can help manage the scope, timing, materials, and workmanship details so the exterior restoration is handled as a single project.

Custom Skylight Replacement from AcraLite of Texas

This property had a custom skylight that needed to be replaced. For that part of the project, we used AcraLite of Texas, a skylight manufacturer in Garland.

Custom skylights are not something to treat casually. The size, curb, frame, flashing, and roof tie-in all matter. A skylight is one of the more sensitive roof penetrations on a home, and poor installation can create leak problems even if the surrounding roof is otherwise installed correctly.

Using a local skylight manufacturer is often helpful because older homes do not always have standard skylight sizes. A properly measured and fabricated skylight helps avoid forcing a stock product into an opening where it does not belong.

Decorative Chimney Cap Fabrication

The decorative chimney cap was also removed and replaced. For the metal fabrication, we worked with Thompson Mathis Metal.

Decorative chimney caps are both functional and visual. They help protect the chimney opening while also affecting the appearance of the home. On a storm restoration project, the goal is not just to replace damaged metal. The new cap needs to fit correctly, shed water properly, and look appropriate for the house.

That is one reason we prefer using experienced local metal fabricators for custom pieces. The small details matter more than most people realize.

Full Gutter Replacement

The project also included replacement of the full gutter system. Gutters are often damaged in hailstorms, especially when the storm is strong enough to damage roofing, chimney metal, skylights, or fence stain.

Gutters are not just cosmetic. They move water away from fascia, siding, windows, landscaping, and the foundation area. When gutters are dented, loose, poorly sloped, or undersized, they may still be hanging on the house but no longer performing correctly.

A roof replacement is often the right time to address gutters because both systems work together. The roof sheds the water. The gutter system collects it and moves it away from the structure.

Fence Power Washing and Staining

This Rowlett project also included fence restoration. The fence was power washed before staining.

That step matters. One of the most common shortcuts in fence staining is applying stain over a dirty or weathered surface. A fence should generally be cleaned or power washed before stain is applied. Otherwise, the stain may not bond evenly, the color may look inconsistent, and the finished product may not last as long.

Fence stain is not paint. It needs to penetrate the wood. Dirt, mildew, dead fibers, previous residue, and surface contamination all interfere with that process. Cleaning the fence first is not an upgrade. It is part of doing the job correctly.

After a storm, homeowners often focus on the roof first. That is understandable. The roof is the main weather barrier, and roof damage can lead to interior leaks if it is ignored.

But the roof is only one part of the exterior system. A thorough storm inspection should also look at:
