East Dallas Roofing Company
Bert Roofing has deep roots in East Dallas. Our company was formally incorporated in 1988, but the Bert family roofing history goes back much further.
John E. Bert, born in 1906, grew up in East Dallas. The family had ties to Munger Place Church, one of the historic churches in Old East Dallas.
By the 1960s, he was already doing roofing work in Dallas. Bert Roofing Inc. is the formal company that grew out of that longer family history.
East Dallas has also been home in the ordinary sense. The family story runs through Lakewood, Casa Linda, Lake Highlands, Tietze Park, the East Dallas YMCA, Woodrow Wilson High School, Mockingbird Elementary, the old Lakewood Theater, and the old Casa Linda Theater. These are not borrowed landmarks for a service-area page. They are places tied to the people who built and still operate the company.
Roofing in East Dallas Is Different
East Dallas is not one single roofing market. It includes older homes, pier and beam houses, mature trees, lake-area properties, historic neighborhoods, postwar homes, remodels, additions, and newer high-end construction built into older streets.
That variety matters.
A roof in East Dallas often has more going on than a simple suburban reroof. Many homes have older decking, mixed framing, multiple additions, low-slope sections, older ventilation designs, and heavy tree cover. Some have garage additions, back porch roofs, or flat roof sections that need a different roofing system than the main shingle roof.
That is where experience matters. A roof replacement is not just about installing shingles. It is about knowing what is underneath the roof, how water moves across the structure, how the attic is ventilated, and where old repairs or additions may create problems.
Common Roofing Issues We See in East Dallas
East Dallas roofs often age differently than roofs in newer parts of North Texas. Some of the most common issues we see include:
Mature trees and roof wear
Large trees are part of the character of East Dallas, especially around White Rock Lake, Lakewood, Casa Linda, and Lake Highlands. They also create roofing problems.
Tree limbs can rub shingles. Leaves and debris can collect in valleys. Heavy shade can slow drying after rain. Animals can also find entry points around worn decking, trim, vents, and roof edges.
Low-slope additions
Many older East Dallas homes have additions that were built years after the original house. These areas may include back porches, sunrooms, garages, patio covers, or small flat roof sections.
Some of these sections are too low-slope for standard shingles. When that happens, the roof needs a proper low-slope system, not a shingle installation forced onto a roof that was not designed for it.
This is an area where many residential roofing contractors do not have enough experience. Low-slope residential roofing is often butchered. We see shingles installed where they should not be used, poor tie-ins between the low-slope roof and the main roof, bad drainage, and short-term patchwork that creates recurring leaks.
Bert Roofing has the experience to install these systems correctly. We also fix many of the low-slope roofing mistakes left behind by prior work. On East Dallas homes, that can be the difference between a roof that looks acceptable for a short time and a roof system that actually handles water the right way.
Older decking and hidden repairs
Older homes often have surprises under the shingles. We regularly find older decking, prior repairs, mixed materials, or areas that need replacement before the new roof can be installed correctly.
Good roofing work starts before the shingles go on. If the decking, flashing, drip edge, starter, ventilation, and underlayment are wrong, the finished roof may look fine from the street but still have problems.
Hail and wind damage
East Dallas gets the same North Texas hail and wind exposure as the rest of Dallas. The difference is that many East Dallas roofs are older, shaded, or more complex. Damage may not always be obvious from the ground.
A proper inspection matters, especially after a storm. We look at the full roof system, not just a few visible shingles.
More Than a Local Name
Bert Roofing is local to East Dallas, but we are not just a neighborhood name. We are an established Dallas roofing company with professional credentials and a long record of residential roofing work.
Bert Roofing Inc. has operated since 1988. John E. Bert II is a former president of the North Texas Roofing Contractors Association. Bert Roofing has also received 12 Golden Hammer awards from the North Texas Roofing Contractors Association, a level of recognition few residential roofing contractors in North Texas have matched.
Bert Roofing is also a preferred or certified contractor with three of the largest roofing manufacturers in the world: GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed. That matters because manufacturer standards are not just marketing language. Correct installation, proper accessories, ventilation, flashing, underlayment, and warranty requirements all affect how a roof performs over time.
Bert Roofing is also an RCAT licensed contractor through the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. Texas does not require a state roofing license for roofing contractors, so RCAT licensing helps separate established contractors from companies with little formal oversight.
That matters in Dallas. Roofing has a low barrier to entry. Many companies appear after storms, sell aggressively for a few seasons, and disappear before workmanship problems show up. Bert Roofing has been here for decades.
Roof Replacement in East Dallas
We replace roofs throughout East Dallas, including shingle roofs, impact-resistant shingle roofs, and mixed roof systems with low-slope sections.
The right roof system depends on the house. Some homes are a straightforward architectural shingle replacement. Others need deck repair, additional ventilation review, upgraded flashing, or a low-slope roof system on part of the structure.
We commonly work with major manufacturers such as GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, and other established roofing product lines. Product choice matters, but correct installation matters more.
A good roof replacement should include attention to:
- Decking condition
- Drip edge
- Starter shingles
- Valley treatment
- Flashing
- Ventilation
- Underlayment
- Low-slope roof sections
- Manufacturer requirements
- Local code requirements
Cutting corners on those items can shorten the life of the roof, even when the shingles themselves are good products.
Roof Repair and Storm Damage Inspections
Not every roof needs replacement. We also inspect and repair roofs throughout East Dallas.
Common repair calls include:
- Leaks around chimneys
- Leaks around pipe jacks
- Missing shingles
- Tree limb damage
- Valley leaks
- Low-slope roof leaks
- Animal entry points
- Storm damage
- Flashing problems
- Small areas of rotten decking
A repair should be diagnosed carefully. Water often enters in one area and shows up somewhere else inside the house. That is especially true on older East Dallas homes with additions, older decking, or complicated rooflines.

East Dallas Roofing Experience Since Before 1988
Bert Roofing was incorporated in 1988, but our East Dallas roofing roots go back further. That history matters because East Dallas is not a market we entered recently. It is where our family, our company, and much of our work history are tied together.
We know the homes. We know the neighborhoods. We know the roof types. We also know that homeowners in East Dallas tend to value straight answers, correct installation, and a company that will still be here later.
That is the position Bert Roofing has tried to hold for decades.
